Questions and Answers

Question:  Why do people seek out therapy?

Answer:  Those who seek out therapy have many reasons for doing so.  Some of these are:

  • A life trauma or challenge has disrupted normal coping strategies and new understandings and skills are needed.
  • Chronic problems (substance abuse, unhappy relationships, sadness or anxiety) become unbearable.
  • A person believes that life can be better and has the courage to deal with problems.

Question:  How can counseling help?

Answer:  Psychotherapy offers a number of benefits that include:

  • Relief from symptoms of sadness, anxiety, anger and frustration
  • Improved ability to understand ourselves and find practical  solutions to problems
  • Greater competence over emotional experience and life choices
  • More effective communication and more satisfying personal relationships
  • Creation of meaningful life goals and the skills to achieve them

Question:  How do I justify the cost of therapy?

Answer:  Psychotherapy is an investment in a better life -- improved outlook, greater happiness, more satisfying relationships and enhanced productivity.  Healthy emotional functioning is as important as anything in our lives.

Question:  How do I get my partner to come to therapy with me?

Answer:  Often, one person in a couple is more ready to seek out counseling than the other.  When a partner is not ready, it is always beneficial for the willing person to enter therapy.  Whe one person begins to make improvements, often the relationship is indirectly improved.  A imple truth is that we can only manage and change one person -- ourselves!

Question:  How long does therapy last?

Answer:  The length of treatment varies depending upon the presenting problem and the willingnes of the client to face and change harmful aspects of themselves.    Solution focused therapy (practiced by Dr. Delisle) tends to be more brief than other forms.  The length of treatment is a mutual decision between client and Dr. Delisle based upon the creation of therapeutic goals and monitored progress.

Question:  How do I pay for therapy?

Answer:  Dr. Delisle sets her fee with each client as part of the initial session.  Payment is made at the time of service and a master invoice is provided to clients upon their request for submission to their insurance company.  Payment can be made in the following forms:  personal check, visa or master card (including debit cards) and cash.

When co-parenting counseling sessions are held, each person pays for half of the fee unless other arrangements are made.

Question:  How do I know when I have reached my therapeutic goals?

Answer:  Regular assessments throughout treatment are made to monitor progress and identify progress toward goals.

Question:  Can I return to therapy if I need to?

Answer:  Certainly.  Past clients often return to therapy when life cirumstances make that appropriate.
